Davis Double: How Much Draft Can a Man Take?

A friend, who is a very fast rider, is doing the Davis Double on a tandem.  Another fast tandem and a group of fast single riders are starting with them.  Will going with them mean a fast ride and an early finish or completely blown legs in the first hour and a suffer-fest in the inevitable afternoon heat?  Do I dare find out?  Ten days to decide.

Do you want to try for a personal best or have an enjoyable Davis double ? After doing it 12 times I have come to the conclusion that riding your own pace is the only way to have a good time. looking at someone elses butt for 200 miles while pedaling for all your'e worth just dosen't sound like fun to me.....then again, I never broke 12 hours, either !

Both, of course! This will be my third Davis. The first was enjoyable and slow. The second was pretty fast (12:45) but there were moments in the hurt locker when I was wondering what the hell I was doing there. I've ridden Solvang Spring in 11 hours, so 12 my be doable with favorable weather and drafts.
